Customer Rating: Summary: KYB vs Monroe Comment: Toyota Camry 99, mileage is about 120k. The original struts were replaced two years ago by Monroe Sensa-Trac. The ride was soft, smooth, but the bottom of the car still scratched curbs. Recently, I found that clearance became even lower, so I decided to go with KYB, which are made in Japan. The lowest price was on AJUSA (http://www.ajusa.com). First, I replaced the rear struts only. After replacement, I found that one of my rear struts was bad, which was strange to see it after utilizing them for 2 years, and the clearance was increased by 1.5 inch!!! After a week, I replaced the front struts. With Monroe struts driving over curbs, car moved up and down 2 times. With KYB car does not shake. I would love to know why it does not, because I'm very confused. Look, the strut rod (sorry don't know the right name for it) of the monroe was moving inside of the strut harder than in KYB. Because of that, I did not expect much from KYB. However, there is a big difference, and KYB struts are much, much better and less expensive compared to Sensa-Trac. After replacing front struts, the clearance did not change, but car does not scratch curbs. I would change the springs to increase the clearance, but don't know which springs I would need to use, and not sure if replacing springs would solve the problem.
