These reusable K&N Filtercharger air filters outflow any other filter--up to 900 cfm--for power gains of up to 15 HP. They use a surgical cotton fabric soaked in oil as their tack barrier. Sandwiched between an aluminum screen wire, the holes in the cotton catch tumbling air and straighten it out. Since air moving in a straight line flows faster, the filter actually improves airflow. They can be covered by up to 1/4 in. of debris before air restriction makes cleaning necessary. The filters come pre-oiled, and many are available as a direct fit for your application.

Customer Rating: Summary: Filter works for me Comment: Toyota mechanics will often tell you the filter will foul the MAP sensor because the company insists they do. If you put too much oil on the filter, it can foul it (there are ways to clean the sensor, but off hand I can't remember them). After cleaning the KN filter after 20,000 or so miles, many people spray too much oil on it and that will foul the sensor. Follow KN's re-oiling instrictions religiously. I have used a KN filter on an '06 4Runner for almost 40,000 miles without a problem and got a little better gas mileage. One Toyota mechanic admitted to me that they are supposed to tell people not to use them, but he'd rather be honest. Customer Rating: Summary: Not for Tundras! Comment: My mechanic, a Toyota-trained tech, told me that the oil in these filters will foul the MAP meter in a Tundra. This meter measures air flow and temperature after it passes through the air filter. A fouled MAP meter will produce a very bad air/fuel mix. I ended up with fouled spark plugs and a rough-running engine after about a month of using this filter.
This warning applies to other Toyota's with MAP meters also.
