Customer Rating: Summary: Junk Comment: I used this twice and it seemed to work fine, pumping several gallons of fuel. Then, the third time I tried to use it, it wouldn't pump at all. No pressure; nothing. It appears that the gasoline destroyed the seals. I sent an email to the vendor (Overtons) and got no response. The cost of shipping and handling, plus the cost and effort to return it is hardly worth the trouble. I guess I'm out $25. Don't buy this piece of junk! Customer Rating: Summary: Purchase this only with fuel container from same manufacturer Comment: Works only with a 5 gallon conatiner having a separate air vent. Most newer fuel containers have the air vent integral to the pouring spout. This pump won't work with those containers. But the pump with its special 5 gallon container, Also remove the hook used to hold the fuel hose when not in use. Do this for the best fuel tight connection when pumping. Customer Rating: Summary: Poor construction slow to fill Comment: Poor construction and poor performance -- Save your money. I purchased one of these pumps to fill small engines from a new 5 gallon gas container which came equiped with the new style safety spout. Holding a full five gallon gas can to fill a lawnmower was difficult and sometimes messy so I bought one of these pumps. The pump pushes the gas during the up stroke of the pump handle and would leak around the pumping rod during use. The pump worked acceptable for a little over 6 months and then failed completely. Customer Rating: Summary: Fell Apart within a Year. Piece of Junk Comment: Worked Fair for about 7 Months, then it completely fell apart. My neighbor also bought one. His fell apart in 2 months. Great concept but real garbage!!! I hope this review saves you money. Customer Rating: Summary: Horrible Gas Can Pump! Almost As If It Was Not Made To Pump Gas! Comment: OK, let me start by saying that I needed a gas pump for that 6 and 1/2 gallon gas can which when fully filled weighs in excess of over 50 pounds. Trying to hold a can that weighs that much for 2 minutes to fill a 3-gallon or larger fuel tank is next to impossible, so you need a pump! I have seen these pumps on Amazon and other places for an entire year now and I thought, well, I will take a chance and get one.
After following the directions of the basic paper manual and installing it on the can, it did in fact leak fuel at the connection like the other reviews are saying. But I learned to pump it straight so I was not lifting up on the pump causing that leak so it was a little better then. Well, it worked great pumping the fuel into the tank, it was slow going so it took just as long to fill it up the manual way but at least you still have your arms after your done!
Well, after no more than a months worth of use, the pump started acting funny like it had a air leak. I made sure all the hose connections were tight and that the can connection was tight and that the pickup hose was not sucking against the inside of the gas can. It still acted the same way, only pumping 20% efficiency. However, the next time I went to use it, the pump did not work at all! I could pump that darn handle as fast as I could and I would not get any gas at all to come out of the nozzle!
In conclusion... If something is not meant to pump gas, than the volitile nature of gasoline/petrol will in fact destroy the pump. And if this is so, than a company should not make a product stating its made to pump gas! That is very poor business practices in my book and I will never ever buy a product from the company who made the pump ever again! Believe you and me, I could of achieved the same results by taking 30 bucks and lighting it on fire.
